FAQ
1. Where can I learn more about my site’s performance?
Use the Site Speed dashboard to get an overview of your site speed metrics based on both field and lab data. In the top section you’ll see the actual loading time your site visitors experience. This is your TTI (Time To Interactive)—the amount of time it takes for your site to respond to user input such as clicks, typing, or even taps. You can also check your loading speed per page, the Speed over Time section for recent trends, and compare yourself to other sites in your category and location.
In the bottom section you can test your site speed on PageSpeed Insights, as well as view your PageSpeed score history.
2. What is Google Lighthouse?
Google Lighthouse is an open-source auditing tool that measures page behavior based on 5 criterias including: performance, best practices, accessibility, SEO and Progressive Web App (not currently supported by Wix). Google PageSpeed Insights is an online service that uses Lighthouse to display a page's performance.
3. Why are Google Lighthouse scores different for desktop and mobile?
PageSpeed scores for mobile are usually lower than desktop. That’s because mobile devices generally have slower processors and take more time to resize texts and images. Plus, PageSpeed Insights displays the site loading time on mobile with a simulated 3G connection on a Moto G4 device. Keep in mind that your mobile score may not be reflective of the experience all your site visitors have.
4. What are Core Web Vitals and how can it affect my site’s ranking?
Core Web Vitals are a set of specific factors that Google considers important in a webpage’s overall user experience. They are designed to help standardize and simplify how site owners monitor three key factors that impact visitor experience the most: loading time, interactivity and visual stability. Focusing on these core metrics ensures that your site optimizations yield significant improvements to your pages performance. Over the past year, we’ve managed to achieve dramatic improvements for CWV. As a result, we’ve increased the ratio of Wix sites with good scores for all three CWV by 8x. Learn more about Core Web Vitals in this guide or watch this webinar hosted in partnership with Google.
5. What is Content Delivery Network (CDN)?
CDN is a geographically distributed network of proxy servers and data centers. Their goal is to provide high availability and performance by distributing the service spatially relative to end users. At Wix, all static resources, such as images and Javascript files, are served from CDNs. We use a variety of CDN providers around the globe and automatically select ones that provide each visitor the best speed.
6. How can I further optimize my site for performance?
Every new feature developed at Wix is built with performance in mind to help you deliver the best user experience for your visitors. As a site owner, there are many ways to improve your site’s performance including:
-
Avoiding overloading pages with excessive content
-
When possible, upload your media as JPGs instead of PNGs and as videos instead of GIFs
-
Stick to 1-3 fonts and font weights
