International Women’s Day is just over 100 years old! The first celebration was held in 1909 in New York, and from there it spread from nation to nation until 1975, when it was officially adopted by the UN. In many countries, it’s even a national holiday with its own traditions.
Women empowerment is something that we do everyday here at Wix, by enabling our millions of female users (small business owners, artists, daily-life influencers and more) to speak up and show their true personalities online. An example amongst many, many others: these 10 talented female photographers are taking the photography world by storm, and we’re extremely proud that they chose a Wix portfolio to do so.
From San Francisco to Tel Aviv to Kiev, the women (and men) at Wix around the globe are taking a moment to celebrate International Women’s Day. We have a full schedule of events planned to make sure we celebrate, as it should be, the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women around the world:

To kick things off, we invited guest speaker, Sarah George Durham, who wears a couple of hats. Namely, she’s a Wix Ambassador, a self made entrepreneur, a mother of five and runs her own web design agency. We’re also proud to host Harel Stanton, a therapist who hosts workshops for women empowerment. He will present his two-decade-long photographic project where he documents the treatment of women from various cultural backgrounds. Finally, we have one of our very own Wix employees, Shulamit Alper. She will share the valuable set of tools that she acquired through her own personal journey of honest listening for self empowerment.
