Celebrating Women’s Day with 4 inspiring and strong Wix users

Strong and Inspiring women entrepreneurs

Who run the world? Women.

Today more than ever, women are making their mark across every industry, from media and technology to politics and finance. And guess what? There’s been no evidence that the presence and impact of powerful ladies will be slowing down anytime soon.

At Wix, we’ll be celebrating International Women’s Day in the halls of our offices tomorrow and of course, right here on the Wix Blog. We reached out to some pretty impressive Wix users (and small business owners) and are excited to share their businesses and their experiences of entrepreneurship.

Michelle Carreno-Bolong, Fly Studios

Michelle is the owner and artistic director of Fly Studios, an aerial arts studio for children, encouraging self-exploration, freedom and growth. We took a moment to speak with Michelle and asked her what it’s like running her own business, particularly as a woman. As a mother of twins, she’s compared starting and running a business to running a very unpredictable and chaotic marathon. She’s found that she has to be extremely creative when finding time to refuel herself. The biggest lessons she’s learned?

“LET GO of items on my checklist that I couldn’t get to that day, I’ve learned to delegate even more and rely on the strength of my team, and ask for help more than ever.”

Her experience has given her a new appreciation for female business owners, especially mothers because they are the ultimate multi-task masters. Michelle went on to say that she understands the importance of the role of businesses like Fly Studios to nurture our future generation. Her and her team work hard to build up childrens’ confidence and help them understand that they can be and achieve anything they want if they learn to respect everyone through our differences, and she is certain that they will build a better tomorrow.

We’re so excited to see what’s to come for Michelle and the Fly Studios Team!

Thea Perez, Polychrome

Thea is the Creative Director of Polychrome, an online marketplace for original print-work for the fashion apparel and lifestyle industries. When Wix asked her what it’s like running her own business, finding time for herself, and managing a largely female team, she reflected on how her day-to-day is busy juggling creative work and managerial tasks.

“I often need to remind myself of the primary goals of my business and how they align with my personal goals of having time to nurture my personal relationships with family and friends, as well as taking time to take care of myself.”

She went on to say that she doesn’t always get the work/life balance thing quite right (we hear you, Thea!). That said, it’s important for her to take time to breathe so she can do her best work without burning out. The staff at Polychrome work remotely, giving them flexible hours to focus on their own daily demands. She gave an important shout-out to the gents of her company, too, proving that she definitely understands the power of equality. Girl-power is great! But when it comes down to it, we all need to collaborate together to progress.

Tiffany Nicole, The Mobile Vintage Shop

After losing her boutique in New York’s trendy SoHo, fashionista Tiffany Nicole reinvented herself and her business model by taking her store to the street; literally. She purchased a trailer and began selling vintage clothes for $10. This novel concept allowed her to focus on her business rather than her rent – and boy, was she onto something. Today she has two trailers and a shop in Brooklyn, plus she’s received international press coverage. She sums up her experience beautifully:

“When it got harder, I didn’t give up. I just kept going!”

DJ, artist, philanthropist – is there anything Quiana Parks can’t do? This powerhouse has been called “the paragon of resilience,” having beat Lymphoma at the age of 11, she’s been working with some of New York’s most prominent brands and is a total social influencer. Her vibrant style and versatile talent shows through her music and her art. Quiana also created “DJ for a Cure;” an awareness project that bridges her love for music with building a discussion around blood cancers. We can’t wait to see where she’s headed next!
