Wix News Room

Wix is powered by some of the brightest minds in the tech industry, with teams spanning diverse expertise—from eCommerce to development to AI—shaping the future of how people build and grow online. With 2025 just around the corner, we asked some of our most insightful thinkers to share their predictions for the coming year. What trends will redefine eCommerce? How will developers continue to push boundaries? And what’s next for AI, the hottest topic in tech for the last two years? Here’s what they had to say.

What's Next for the Developer Community? 2025 Developer Predictions from Yoav Abrahami, Chief Architect and Head of Velo at Wix:

Over the years, we’ve seen technological shifts like virtualization, cloud computing, and containerization transform industries. In 2025, AI will solidify its place in this lineage, becoming a foundational component for businesses of all sizes. From security to audit and cost management, companies are increasingly adopting AI to address real-world challenges, with tools becoming more accessible and user-friendly for developers.

However, the rise of AI-driven content creation brings a unique challenge: content overload. As the volume of information grows beyond what people can consume, businesses and individuals will turn to AI for filtering and prioritization, ensuring focus on what truly matters.

Interestingly, while AI has transformed how we process information, it hasn’t replaced traditional search engines. Tools like ChatGPT have augmented rather than dethroned platforms like Google Search, becoming part of a complementary ecosystem. In the future, AI will likely enhance search functionality, working alongside traditional engines to improve information discovery.

Furthermore, with the open-source ecosystem undergoing significant tension, especially around GPL licensing, we are seeing developers and companies increasingly questioning whether GPL, with its strict code-sharing rules, fits the modern tech landscape. More flexible alternatives like MIT and Apache 2.0 licenses are gaining traction, offering solutions that promote collaboration without some of GPL’s limitations.

This shift is likely to impact agencies most, particularly those reliant on GPL-heavy platforms. High-profile disputes over licensing are driving some businesses to explore alternative technologies, leading to a rethinking of open-source strategies. As the ecosystem evolves, we may see a move toward licensing models that better balance openness with practicality, fostering sustainable growth for developers and agencies alike.

The Game-Changing Trends Shaping the Future of eCommerce - Oren Inditzky, VP and GM of Online Stores, and Head of Donations at Wix:

eCommerce has continuously evolved with advancements in technology and shifting trends. As we look toward 2025, I believe we’ll see the next wave of the GenAI revolution, driven by the democratization of Machine Learning. This will allow sellers to create hyper-personalized experiences for consumers in real-time. With AI powering product recommendations, dynamic pricing, and personalized marketing, businesses will be able to offer highly relevant and individualized shopping experiences like never before.

Social media and eCommerce will also become even more intertwined, as consumers increasingly turn to social platforms to discover and purchase products. Rather than relying on traditional search engines, users will flock to platforms like Instagram, TikTok, and others to shop, pushing social media to evolve into primary eCommerce hubs.

Additionally, the rise of headless, composable architecture will redefine how eCommerce platforms operate. This technology will give developers unprecedented flexibility to create customized, seamless user experiences, enabling faster integrations and more agile adaptations to changing consumer demands.

These predictions offer a glimpse into the dynamic landscape that will shape eCommerce in 2025, opening up new opportunities for innovation and growth in the industry.

The Evolution of AI in 2025: From Tools to Partners - Eli Brosh, Head of AI Research

AI is on track to become a cornerstone of business strategies by 2025, transforming from short-lived assistants into proactive, long-term solutions. These intelligent agents will go beyond handling one-off tasks or responding to individual requests. Instead, they’ll act as enduring partners capable of anticipating needs, orchestrating complex workflows, and refining strategies over time. By remembering past interactions and aligning their support with both immediate objectives and long-term goals, these AI systems will deliver personalized, forward-thinking solutions for businesses.

We’ll also see a shift in how AI applications are scaled. Rather than relying solely on general-purpose, resource-intensive AI models, enterprises will embrace specialized, efficient AI tailored to specific functions, such as optimizing SEO, streamlining eCommerce, or creating compelling content. These smaller, cost-effective models will be enterprise-owned, complementing the broad reasoning abilities of general models. Together, this adaptive ecosystem will offer more scalable, impactful, and cost-effective AI solutions.

Additionally, human-AI collaboration will reach new heights as AI becomes more seamlessly integrated into daily workflows. Agentic AI will handle routine tasks autonomously, leaving humans to focus on more complex, creative challenges. For example, in customer support, AI may manage basic inquiries, while humans address nuanced issues. Similarly, in software development, AI will implement logic while developers craft the overall architecture. This trust-driven partnership will allow businesses to combine human ingenuity with AI’s efficiency, unlocking unparalleled productivity and innovation.

The Future of Agencies in 2025: Adapting to Fragmentation, AI, and New Revenue Models - Kobi Gamliel, Head of Agency Growth at Wix Studio

The agency model is undergoing a transformation as brands become increasingly fragmented, with specialized teams focusing on subsets. As a result, agencies are less likely to work on large-scale, all-encompassing projects. Instead, they’ll find themselves working with subsets of brands, tackling smaller, more targeted campaigns.

To stay ahead, agencies need to pivot in several key ways. First, building a robust contractor network is essential. With the rise of specialized skillsets—such as 3D artists, AR/VR developers, and niche content creators—it’s impractical to keep full-time employees for every need. Instead, agencies must cultivate a pool of contractors they can tap into for specific projects. However, it’s critical to keep these contractors connected to the agency’s culture, fostering a sense of community and collaboration even as they work on a per-project basis. This approach ensures efficiency while avoiding high labor costs associated with maintaining a large permanent staff.

AI will also play a pivotal role in reshaping agency workflows. Every agency needs an AI champion—someone who not only educates the team and clients about AI’s potential but also develops tools and processes to integrate AI into daily operations. AI can create opportunities to improve efficiency, like automating tasks such as generating title tags or enabling responsive design. However, agencies must position AI as an enabler, not a replacement. By emphasizing that AI is about enhancing creativity and execution, agencies can address client concerns about whether they even need outside support, reinforcing the value of expert strategy and guidance.

Tools like Wix Studio enable agencies to use AI to enhance efficiency in areas like meta tag creation or responsive web design, freeing up teams to focus on creative and strategic tasks. Additionally, no-code and low-code solutions reduce reliance on external resources, making projects more cost-effective and agile.

Agencies will also need to rethink their revenue models to adapt to these changes. Selling assets, creatives, and templates can generate income even during periods of downtime, ensuring a steady revenue stream when projects are scarce.  Wix Studio enables agencies to sell website templates in a template marketplace where other agencies can buy their work and resell it to other clients.

Looking toward 2025, platforms like Wix Studio offer holistic solutions to streamline this approach, with features like agency management through workspaces that allow agencies to collaborate with external contractors, manage invoices, and reuse assets efficiently, creating a seamless project management experience, improve client relations and increase agency revenues and efficiency.
