The Pantone Color of the Year is more than just a trendy shade–it’s a reflection of the mindset of the moment.
Last year’s color, PANTONE 13-1023 Peach Fuzz was a nurturing soft peach that conveyed a heartfelt kindness. Then, in 2023, we had PANTONE 18-1750 Viva Magenta, an animated crimson red that demonstrated a new signal of strength. And in 2022, PANTONE 17-3938 Very Peri, a dynamic red-infused blue, encouraged inventiveness and creativity as we moved into a new world following the pandemic.
Now, PANTONE 17-1230 Mocha Mousse is on the scene. But what does it mean for web designers, and what does it say about the culture at large?
For starters, it’s warm and comforting, like a hot cup of coffee or a bar of chocolate. “Underpinned by our desire for everyday pleasures, the color expresses a level of thoughtful indulgence,” says Laurie Pressman, Vice President of the Pantone Color Institute. “It extends our perceptions of browns from being humble and grounded to aspirational and luxe.”
Let’s take a closer look at PANTONE 17-1230 Mocha Mousse, including why it’s the color we need now and how to incorporate it into your Wix Studio sites.
How PANTONE 17-1230 Mocha Mousse makes us feel
Consider it a continuation of the caring, kind nature of PANTONE 13-1023 Peach Fuzz, which as Pressman says, “conjured up an air of calm and offered a space to feel and heal, either by spending time with others or taking a moment for ourselves.”
This warm brown is calming in its own right, thanks to its equal nod to nature and food. “Colors with food names hold special appeal when people look for comfort,” Pressman says.
Meanwhile, the natural element encourages us to let out a deep exhale. “In pursuit of sustainable living there’s a growing movement to align ourselves more closely with the natural world,” Pressman says. “Surrounding ourselves with organic products, materials and colors tied to natural pigments helps us to feel more deeply connected to our environment.”
Natural colors are also timeless, she says, and we associate things that are timeless with stability, which in turn helps us feel calm.

Why PANTONE 17-1230 Mocha Mousse is about to have a moment
Did your ears perk up at the word calm? If you need more low-key vibes in your life (like everyone else), you’ll probably appreciate this color choice.
“This desire for calm is in part a reaction to AI and social media, but it’s also tied to the overall pace of life today,” Pressman says. “Everything moves and changes at such a rapid pace, that it can be hard to digest or keep up.”
That’s in part why we’ve got a color that makes you want to stop and take a break, even better if that break includes a warm mug of mocha.
How to embrace the color as a designer
“How the color is used will depend on the brand, product and mood the web designer is looking to create,” Pressman says. But PANTONE 17-1230 Mocha Mousse could be a solid choice for clients that want to instill feelings of warmth and trust in their customers, especially food or wellness brands.

Here’s a quick preview of some of our favorites:
Text marquee
Also known as a “news ticker,” text marquee is a dynamic element used to display a continuous message across the screen. Use PANTONE 17-1230 Mocha Mousse to ensure your message is soft and inviting, unlike the jarring “breaking news!!!” updates you see on TV.
Template
Go all in on PANTONE 17-1230 Mocha Mousse with this template perfect for your next outdoor client. Pops of neon—paired with bold, digital-first sans serifs—add an element of modernity to the mix. It’s 2025, after all.
Buttons
As a CTA best practice, your buttons should be clear and prominent, but they shouldn’t steal the show. That’s where a warm and calming color like this one comes into play: it’s welcoming and inviting, not desperate or demanding, so visitors can’t help but click.
