Submission requirements & best practices
At Wix Studio, we’re committed to maintaining a high standard of quality. Our team carefully reviews each template before it’s published on the Marketplace to ensure that it meets our requirements and guidelines, and provides buyers with a great user experience.
Take note, your template may be rejected if it still fails to meet the guidelines above after 2 rounds of feedback.
Before you submit your Wix Studio template, be sure that it meets the requirements and best practices listed below. If it doesn’t, it will be rejected and you’ll have to fix any issues before resubmitting it.
Requirements
Design and content
-
The template must be built in the Wix Studio Editor
-
The template is either fully designed and/or offers advanced functionality through Wix Studio’s native business solutions or custom code. In the case of the latter, we’ll accept either a template that meets the design criteria below, or a wireframe that’s well-structured and usable, similar to our Studio wireframes
-
The template demonstrates strong graphic design according to these principles:
Visual design: the site adheres to design principles like contrast, layout, typography, balance, hierarchy, and proportion. The design reflects modern aesthetics and styles
Originality: the template uses original, unique design elements instead of generic or overused stock elements
Image and element quality: all images and visual elements must be high-resolution and contribute to the overall style or add informational value
Visual identity: there is a consistent brand and visual identity throughout
-
The template uses a cohesive, themed design system, including a color palette, typography styles, and design elements such as buttons, ensuring a unified aesthetic throughout.
-
If using Wix's default content, ensure the page design aligns with the overall theme of the template
User experience
-
The core site goals and usability are prioritized and supported throughout the design
-
There’s an intuitive user experience and seamless conversion flow across all devices and screen sizes
-
Layouts must be fully responsive, ensuring the design looks great on all devices and breakpoints. Pay special attention to the smallest breakpoint (320px) to avoid issues like content overflow or misalignment
-
There’s no horizontal scrolling at any breakpoint that’s caused by overflow content
Pages listed in the editor should be visible on the live site or preview. There should always be a way to navigate to them -
The interaction design is intuitive and engaging for users. All interactions serve a clear functional or aesthetic goal
-
All text, especially primary headings and body copy, is fully editable. Images shouldn’t contain text, unless the text represents a hypothetical brand or product name (like in a template for an online store or portfolio)
-
Links and buttons have defined hover states to show that they are clickable
-
All links used within the template work and point to a valid URL
-
Pages listed in the navigation menu or footer link to their corresponding pages
-
The template only uses default or Google fonts included in Wix Studio—no custom fonts are used
-
Each page’s URL slug matches the page name
-
The site is stable and functions seamlessly
Layout and structure
-
There’s a clear information architecture so that information is well-organized and digestible
-
The main structure of the site uses layout units such as sections, containers, Grid, Stack or others, in a way that doesn’t break the layout or hide content across different breakpoints
-
All pages within the template contain a header and footer, with the exception of intro pages
Template exclusivity and uniqueness
The template must be substantially different from other templates already listed on the Marketplace, or free templates offered on Wix Studio. If you’re building a template based on an existing template, you must make meaningful changes to the design and functionality. These are some of the cues we look for:
-
Your codebase has meaningful differences when compared to code from other templates
-
Your template has a clear industry focus
-
Your template has inventive art direction that distinguishes it visually from other templates
-
Your template has a cohesive look and feel, for example across the index page, product and collection pages, blogs, search and cart
-
Your template offers unique customization options or functionality that distinguishes it from other templates
Customer support
-
By submitting a template, you understand and agree that you are solely responsible for providing prompt support and assistance in relation to that template, and are expected to take any action required and to comply with the law when applicable
-
Any requests or claims that Wix receives from a buyer regarding any of your templates may be referred to you
-
Make sure you provide a valid email address for support and you’re available to answer queries
Disclaimer
Wix reserves the right to change and update these requirements at any time at its sole discretion, with or without a notice to you.
Wix also reserves the right to suspend or remove, at its sole discretion, any Partner or any Partner’s template from the Marketplace in the event of failure to follow or adhere to these requirements.
Best practices
Follow the guidelines and recommendations set out below for the best chance of your template being accepted.
Content and assets
-
The site content matches the business type, industry or the use case of the template
-
All text is free from spelling and grammar errors
Performance
Follow the best practices outlined in this article to optimize your template for performance.
Custom code
-
The template can use code, but not in ways that reduce its usability or affect site performance
-
The template does not use code for essential functionality, as this makes it difficult to edit for people without coding knowledge
-
The code used is written using Javascript best practices, with clear variable names and function names
-
The code used should not affect permissions or allow access that could compromise the security parameters on the website or website users’ data. Wix retains the right to define these security parameters
-
Code comments are included to help guide the template setup process and describe the purpose of the code. Comments should not include discarded code or notes from the development process, such as reminders or required changes
-
If the code used has any dependencies that require setup, such as packages, CMS collections or backend code, this is made clear in the template documentation as well as relevant places within the code, using comments
Accessibility
-
The DOM order is organized. Learn more
-
Text size has a minimum value of 12px across all breakpoints to maintain readability
-
The background and font colors have sufficient contrast on all devices
-
Each page has only one H1 heading, which describes the page content
-
Color contrast meets accessibility standards: at least 4.5:1 for small text and buttons, and at least 3:1 for large text
You can check that your template is accessible by using the HeadingsMap Chrome extension. This extension generates a document map or index of any web document, structured with headings and shows the HTML5 outline.
Note: we ask that you do not claim or state that the template you’re selling is fully accessible. While we’re always striving to improve the accessibility of our products and services, we can’t guarantee that your template will be compliant with accessibility laws and regulations across all regions.
Security
-
When creating a template, check that you haven’t duplicated any personal information
-
If you make any changes to the default security definitions, make sure you add it to the template description so buyers are aware of it prior to purchasing
-
If you add any custom apps to your template, make sure to add a link to your own terms of use and privacy policy in the template description
Recommendations
Before submitting your template, we recommend that you:
-
Preview the template on desktop and mobile
-
Check all text for typos, spelling mistakes and grammatical errors
-
Test all links to make sure they’re active and point to a valid URL
