I’m trying to create an input form that allows users to select from a dropdown connected to a collection of choices and then have their choice written to the input form’s underlying collection as a reference field, but I can’t figure out how to connect the dropdown – the reference field is greyed out.
For example, let’s say I have a simple collection “favoriteIceCream” with two fields, “personsName” and “favoriteFlavor”, where “favoriteFlavor” is a reference field pointing to a second collection “iceCreamFlavors” that has one field, “flavor”, and three records for strawberry, vanilla and chocolate. When I create my input form I have a simple input box for personName and a dropdown for favoriteFlavor. I can connect the dropdown items to “iceCreamFlavors” just fine, but I can’t figure out how to connect the dropdown value to my “favoriteFlavor” reference field, as it is greyed out.
The help article https://support.wix.com/en/article/how-to-use-reference-fields leads me to believe it can be done, especially the part at the end:
Connecting Dropdown Elements to Reference Fields
You can connect a dropdown list element to a reference field. This means that the items in the dropdown list automatically come from the primary field in the referenced collection. If you do this on an input form, the value selected by your visitor gets saved to the reference field in your collection.
Any ideas on what I am missing?
Thanks for any help.
