Hey Velo Pros!
We're planning to expand our Member APIs and provide you with more Members Area content. We'd love to hear your feedback about what functionality you need in this area. So please take a minute to answer the following questions:
Ever created a custom Members Area using Velo? We want to know why. What is missing from the native Members Area settings and options that compels you to create your own custom one?
What new functionality would you like us to add to the existing Member APIs?
Thanks!
I just started using the standard members area and still tryna figure out how to filter through the memberships via title or to at least change the sort to being one that is customisable.
Any help?
I have used the members area on two sites for some years now. I’ve used both standard pages like the profile page, and also custom pages within the Wix members area. It works really well in most aspects. But it still seems hard to entice members to use the social area. I guess it’s hard if they are used to their familiar social networks. Also, I had a publicly visible forum but spammers seem to be too attracted to that, so I made invisible to non members. But that doesn’t help for getting found on search engines.
I have found the members bar and members menu a bit hard to configure. On one site there are a lot of pages for each member, both business (orders, wallet etc.) and social (profile, followers etc.). Some of the issues I got:
The members bar seems to jump around on the members profile pages. When I put it in the right position, it seems to soon shift slightly again. It also seems to load slowly.
The business pages and social pages are all in the same menu in the members bar on the members profile pages. In that way the menu becomes really long and hard to use.
Could there be another way to organise the member pages? Maybe there could be multiple members menus, or one for business pages and one for social pages? And could the members bar be optional?
I agree also with @Enes Bekar about the wishlist, it would be really good if it was accessible from the API. I have a site with a custom product page for some products, and can’t use the same wishlist on those pages.
I tried this I tried to create my own member area especially for custom UI/UX but here is what was blocking me and why I didn't do it.
To create the custom member area I wanted to add every single function (at least important them) but I couldn't and these are them:
There is no API about "Block User" or "Report User" for users not for admins. (User will block another user I mean):
2. Wallet page
There is no way to create a custom my wallet page no database for this no API for this.
3. Notifications page
Like wallet page no database for this or no API for this.
4. Notification settings page
Same here no database no API for this page too.
5. Followers and Following pages
Like others xd no database I think database would be enough for this (I'm not sure about this but probably no database or no data about this)
6. (Not important for me but here more) Blog likes and Blog Drafts
Like other pages no API or enough data for this.
7. Follow and Unfollow
We don't have any API to follow a user or unfollow a user. Maybe with APIs, we can even make it like Facebook "I mean to accept or reject follow requests".
8. Wishlist page
No API or database to create this page too.
These are my feedbacks I'm probably right but if I missed something doable but I wrote non-doable I don't know :).
@Tova (Wix) it looks like the new Wix-members API has been released and now Wix-users has been deprecated.
Can someone from Wix update the deprecation notice in the Velo docs with a timeline that folks have to make changes before the api is removed please? There is at least one FB group post where a users is panicking about losing wixUsers.
Thanks
I have created multiple Members Areas using Velo. Mostly for users to see their own data such as database entries, items in a wishlist, edit a database form submission etc.
This is something I run into quite often and would love to see it added. I want to able to display database items on a public members page based on the page you are on. So right now a public members page cannot get the member id of who is belongs to, therefore you cannot filter a database to display that users data for others to see.
