User ID Giving Access to a Particular Line Item in Collection through a Input Form

I have a situation where I would like to have a member generate a line item in a content manager collection database using an input form.

Once submitted, I would love them to return to the same form, which would recognize them and be able to edit the same line item.

In other words, their member ID would be associated with their originally submitted line item.

Any alternative means to achieve something or solution to this would be most welcome.
