Recap: The Words Matter Workshop on Marketing Writing

Last Wednesday, November 7, the Wix Writers’ Guild hosted more than 120 professionals in our Words Matter workshop series. Freelance writers from across Israel trekked to Tel Aviv to spend the whole day honing their marketing writing skills.

Some of Wix’s leading marketing writers shared their approach to creating great text for the web and then turned the keyboard over to all the writers in the room. Fueled by cappuccinos, sandwiches and platters of desserts, the writers worked in small groups to write new, improved and SEO-optimized website content.

Roxanne Cohen, head of Wix’s Marketing Writing, kicked off the day with a presentation about writing home page content. Rachel Olstein Kaplan then gave her crash course in SEO, focusing on what content writers need to know about the world of Search Engine Optimization and how to rank high in relevant search results.

After lunching and mingling outside in the sunshine, Leigh Hartzmann, founder of Freelance Writers in Israel,offered up strategic tips about how to run a profitable writing service. Finally, Netanya Bushewsky wrapped up the day with a presentation on writing content for landing pages. She shared examples of some of the successful landing pages she has written for Wix and then gave participants the opportunity to create their own.
